What Are Sleep
Around Points?

The DVC strategy every savvy member should understand.

Updated March 2026

“Sleep around points” is DVC community slang for a strategy that saves members thousands: buy where it’s cheap, stay wherever you want.

Key Definition

Sleep around points (SAPs) are Disney Vacation Club points purchased for flexible use across all 17 DVC resorts, rather than primarily at the owner’s home resort. SAP buyers prioritize low cost per point and annual dues over the 11-month home resort booking advantage, using the 7-month window to book at any DVC property.

The term originated in the DVC owner community. It’s a playful name for a practical strategy: instead of buying points at a premium resort like the Grand Floridian or Riviera (where resale prices can exceed $200 per point), SAP buyers purchase contracts at more affordable resorts and use their points anywhere in the DVC network during the 7-month booking window.

Understanding the System

How DVC Booking Windows Work

Every DVC member has access to two booking windows, and understanding them is essential to the sleep around points strategy.

11

Month Window

Home Resort Only

Available only at your home resort. You can book up to 11 months before check-in, giving you first pick of dates and room types. This is the main benefit of owning at a specific resort.

7

Month Window

Any DVC Resort

Available at any DVC resort. Starting 7 months before check-in, all members can book at any resort in the network. This is where sleep around points shine: maximum flexibility at minimum cost.

The 7-month window opens on the first day of the month, 7 months before your intended check-in. For example, to book a January stay, the 7-month window opens on June 1st. Popular resorts like the Polynesian and Bay Lake Tower can book up quickly, so timing matters.

The Strategy

Buy Cheap, Stay Anywhere

The cost difference between resorts on the resale market is significant, but all points work the same way during the 7-month window.

ResortResale $/PointAnnual Dues
Saratoga Springs$110-$130~$8.50
Old Key West$115-$140~$9.50
Animal Kingdom Villas$115-$140~$8.80
Boulder Ridge$120-$150~$8.40
vs. Riviera (direct only)$185+~$9.00
vs. Grand Floridian$200+~$10.50

A member who buys 150 points at Saratoga Springs saves $12,000+ upfront compared to the Grand Floridian. Both owners can book anywhere during the 7-month window.

Popular sleep around combinations include buying at Saratoga Springs and booking at the Polynesian, or owning at Animal Kingdom and booking Beach Club for easy EPCOT access. The key is buying where it’s cheap and booking where you want to stay.

What to Look For

Choosing Your Contract

When shopping for SAPs, experienced DVC members evaluate three factors.

01

Low cost per point on resale

Since you won't rely on the 11-month window, there's no reason to pay premium prices. Target resorts under $140/point.

02

Reasonable annual dues

Dues are ongoing. Even a $1/point difference adds up over decades. Saratoga Springs and Boulder Ridge tend to have the lowest.

03

Long contract expiration

Older resorts like Old Key West (2042) have shorter remaining terms than newer ones like Riviera (2070). More years, more value.

Banking and borrowing also factor in. DVC allows members to bank unused points into the following use year or borrow from the next year. SAP owners who plan carefully can accumulate enough points for larger rooms or longer stays by combining two use years.

Don’t Let Points Expire

Rent What You Can’t Use

Life happens. Travel plans change, schedules shift, and sometimes you end up with DVC points that are going to expire before you can use them. Rather than letting points go to waste, many owners rent them to guests who get to experience Disney’s deluxe resorts at a fraction of the cash price.

Traditionally, owners rented through brokers who take 20% or more of the rental value. Some turn to Facebook groups, which offer no protection for either party. Peer-to-peer marketplaces offer a middle ground: the owner sets their own price, renters get escrow protection, and both sides verify their identity.

Owners keep 96% of their rental revenue. Every booking is protected by Stripe escrow until after check-in.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What does SAP mean in DVC?

SAP stands for Sleep Around Points. It refers to Disney Vacation Club points purchased with the primary intention of using them at resorts other than the owner's home resort, taking advantage of the 7-month booking window for flexibility across all 17 DVC properties.

Are sleep around points worth it?

Sleep around points are worth it if you value flexibility over guaranteed access to one specific resort. You save significantly on the purchase price (often $50 to $100+ per point less than premium resorts) while still being able to book at any DVC resort during the 7-month window. The trade-off is losing the 11-month priority at your home resort.

What is the cheapest DVC resort for sleep around points?

On the resale market, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, and Animal Kingdom Villas (Jambo House) are typically the most affordable options for SAPs. Resale prices range from $110 to $140 per point compared to $185+ for popular resorts like Riviera or Grand Floridian.

Can you use sleep around points at any Disney resort?

Yes. DVC points can be used at any of the 17 Disney Vacation Club resorts worldwide during the 7-month booking window. This includes Walt Disney World (12 resorts), Disneyland Resort (2 resorts), Aulani in Hawaii, Hilton Head Island, and Vero Beach.

How far in advance can you book with sleep around points?

At your home resort, you can book 11 months in advance. At any other DVC resort, the booking window opens at 7 months. The 7-month window opens on the first day of the month, so for a January 15 check-in, you could book starting June 1.
